Nepal's seven provinces constitute the country's primary administrative division, established following the implementation of the 2015 constitution that transformed Nepal into a federal democratic republic. As the first level in Nepal's three-tier governance structure, provinces hold significant autonomy in managing regional affairs, including education, health services, agriculture, infrastructure development, and local economic planning. Each province operates with its own government comprising a provincial assembly and chief minister, exercising legislative, executive, and judicial powers within the framework of federal law. This provincial system replaced the previous zone-based structure and aims to decentralize governance, bring administration closer to citizens, and address regional disparities by allowing provinces to formulate policies suited to their specific geographic, cultural, and economic contexts.
