Kyrgyzstan is divided into 9 regions (known as oblasts) that serve as the country's primary administrative divisions. These regions form the first level of a two-tier administrative structure and function as key intermediaries between the national government and local municipalities. Regional administrations are responsible for implementing national policies, coordinating public services such as healthcare and education, managing regional infrastructure and economic development, and overseeing local governance within their territories. Each region is headed by a governor appointed by the President of Kyrgyzstan. The regional governments handle budget allocation, maintain public order, and deliver state services to citizens across their jurisdictions, making them essential to the country's overall administrative framework.
