Regions in Eritrea

About Regions in Eritrea

Eritrea's six regions serve as the country's primary administrative divisions, constituting the first level in a two-tiered system of governance. These regions function as the principal units for implementing national policies and delivering government services to the population. Regional administrations are responsible for managing local affairs including education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and agricultural programs within their jurisdictions. Each region is governed by an administrator appointed by the central government and maintains administrative offices that coordinate activities between the national government in Asmara and lower-level local authorities. The regions also play a role in resource allocation, tax collection, and the maintenance of public order, serving as the critical link between Eritrea's centralized governance structure and community-level administration.
