Regions in Belgium

About Regions in Belgium

Belgium is divided into three regions at the first administrative level: the Flemish Region, the Walloon Region, and the Brussels-Capital Region. These regions form the primary tier of Belgium's federal structure and possess substantial legislative and executive powers. Each region has its own parliament and government, with authority over territorial matters including economic policy, employment, agriculture, water policy, housing, public works, energy, transport, environment, town and country planning, nature conservation, and local government supervision. The regions also handle trade and international relations within their areas of competence. This administrative division reflects Belgium's complex federal system, where regions exercise considerable autonomy alongside the federal government and the communities, which are organized along linguistic lines.
