Zillahs, commonly known as districts, constitute Pakistan's second and final tier of administrative division below the provincial level. The country contains 151 zillahs that serve as the primary units for local governance and public administration. Each zillah functions as the main operational level for delivering government services, maintaining law and order, collecting revenue, and implementing federal and provincial policies. District administrations handle essential functions including education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and judicial services. The zillah is typically headed by a Deputy Commissioner or District Commissioner who coordinates various government departments and oversees administrative operations within the district's boundaries. This structure allows the central and provincial governments to execute programs and maintain administrative control throughout Pakistan's diverse regions.
