Sub-districts form the third and most localized administrative level in Jordan's territorial organization, with 89 such divisions established across the country. These units operate under the governance of the governorate and district levels, serving as the primary point of contact between the central government and local communities. Sub-districts are responsible for implementing national policies at the local level, maintaining civil registries, and coordinating basic public services such as local policing, minor infrastructure maintenance, and community development initiatives. Each sub-district is typically administered by a sub-district director appointed by the Ministry of Interior, who oversees day-to-day administrative functions and acts as a liaison between residents and higher governmental authorities.
